In September, the decommissioned Transrapid TR 09 will embark on its final journey. Preparations for the removal of the maglev train,Read morewhose prototype crashed during a test drive in 2006, are currently under way. The two 25-metre-long compartments of the Transrapid have already been lifted onto low-loaders using cranes. They will be followed by the driver's carriage. For the 60-kilometre-long journey from the site in Lathen, the three parts of the Transrapid are all classified as heavy loads. The journey's destination is meat products manufacturer Kemper, located in Nortrup near Quakenbrück; indeed, the Kemper family are descendants of the maglev's inventor. As Kemper announced on Tuesday, the TR 09 will be transferred during the night of 13 to 14 September.
